Eligibility
Masters degree (M.Sc/M.Tech/M.Pharm) with at least 60% (or equal in CGPA) in almost any branch of Life Sciences/Biotechnology/Chemistry/Physics/Mathematics/Computer Science or allied subjects with a particular interest in Biology. B.Tech (in Biological Sciences or other branches with a particular interest in Biology)/B.Pharm/B.E./MBBS applicants with at least 60 percent (or equal in CGPA) can also apply. Along with this, all candidates must also have got at least 60 percent (or equal in CGPA) in their XIIth standard board exam. Both the standards are relaxed for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy) candidates to a minimum of 55 percent in the highest qualifying examination and at the XIIth standard board exam. Candidates that are awaiting results for its top qualifying exams are permitted to appear, but their admission is subject to clearing all of the eligibility criteria at the time of admission.

Fellowship
M.Sc/M.Tech/M.Pharm/B.Tech/B.Pharm/B.E/MBBS candidates should hold CSIR-UGC(JRF)/DBT(JRF)/ICMR- JRF/DST-INSPIRE or equal (fellowship certificate ought to be valid at least until June 30, 2019, in most cases). Fellowship conditions should let them work in CSIR Laboratories and under CSIR projects. B.Tech/B.Pharm/B.E pupils who meet the requirements for GATE-JRF fellowship (http://csirhrdg.nic.in/gate.html) will also be eligible. Eligible candidates will need to appear for interviews in CSIR-IGIB (see below).
Age Limit
Upper age limit is 28 years (according to the final date of application, May 30, 2019) that is readable for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy)/physically handicapped persons in addition to women candidates according to Govt. Of India principles in this aspect.
NOTE
GATE is NOT a legitimate fellowship to join the program for Masters degree holders. GATE-JRF is the sole valid fellowship scheme strictly for applicants that have BTech or equivalent as maximum qualification according to guidelines provided at http://csirhrdg.nic.in/gate.html. CSIR/UGC-LS qualified applicants aren’t eligible.
Please be aware that JGEEBILS/TIFR entrance exam/IISc entrance examination and comparable assessments are NOT valid fellowship examinations for CSIR-IGIB. Please don’t apply with these examinations as your fellowship source.
Application Procedure

Refreshing webpage or pressing back button of the browser will reset all the details you’ve entered. Please fill in your Gender and Category before you move to fill up the date of birth or your qualifications. In the event, you’ve made an error please refresh or close the tab. You are able to restart the procedure again to finish the registration process successfully. You will need the following for application, therefore please keep these handy whilst applying. It’s very important to be aware that details once submitted aren’t editable, so in order to apply, you want to complete the procedure in a single sitting.
PRE-REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION
1. Application number from AcSIR portal.
Application number generated after registering and applying on the AcSIR entry portal (acsir.res.in). The portal is available from 19 April 2019 to 23 May 2019. Please be aware that you’d need the APPLICATION NUMBER which you get after finishing the application form. That can be NOT just like the registration number (acquired while creating an account in the AcSIR portal site ) for applying to CSIR-IGIB PhD program. The AcSIR portal for application is http://130.211.247.107/acsir/online-admission/portal/acsir-online-adm-portal/index.php#/. Please select CSIR-IGIB as the main Institute for application. If you face any problem with the online application form please notify Pratima or Priyanka at coordinator.igib@acsir.res.in well beforehand of this deadline.
2. A digital passport photo NOT over 2MB in size.
3. Information on your educational qualifications (marks, subjects, university, year of passing, etc). Please convert CGPA grades to percent.
4. A succinctly written research proposal emphasizing the following
a. Title of this proposal
b. Introduction to the problem.
c. What isn’t known?
d. How can you aim to resolve it?
e. 1-page schematic (could be hand-drawn, or computer made) on the proposal. The entire proposal could be maximally 1500 words (excluding the figure). The proposal file should be one pdf file containing the schematic. It has to be uploaded during the application procedure. Please write and keep this ready this before beginning the application process.
5. Fellowship details.
6. Candidates will need to submit a non-refundable application fee of Rs 1000/[Rs 500/for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy) applicants ]. The payment has to be made through an online payment portal. Please keep your net-banking particulars or your card information available with you.

After completing the very first step of this application procedure, you’ll be directed to a page to verify the specifics. Please check the facts carefully. As soon as you’ve verified the details, you’ll be redirected to the payment gateway. The payment amount will be determined in accordance with the criteria provided above. After payment is successful you’ll be redirected back to our website for the transaction and enrollment details. You’ll receive your admit card on your registered email address after this. Selection Procedure: All candidates meeting minimum eligibility standards will be invited through email for appearing for interviews in CSIR-IGIB, Delhi, from the 16th to the 19th of June 2019. Candidate should report in the venue for an interview by 8:30 am on the scheduled date. There’ll be two rounds of interviews. The first round is going to be geared toward assessing abilities to understand, analyze and reason along with the potential of the candidate in biological sciences. Candidates will be called either on the 16th or the 17th of June for this. The candidates will be informed of the dates via the Admit Card they get after completing the application process and successful payment.
Candidates shortlisted according to the first round of interviews will need to appear for the next round of interviews on the 18th of June 2019. The candidates will be evaluated for their ability in biological sciences with special emphasis in their research proposal that they are to submit in the time of application. The candidates must be prepared to make a brief 10-minute presentation based on their own research interest and research proposal.
Candidates eventually picked will have a compulsory interaction session with all the scientists at the Institute on the 19th of June 2019.
Admission Process: The names of those successful candidates eligible to join CSIR-IGIB PhD program is going to be announced on or before 26th June 2019. The chosen candidates need to join CSIR-IGIB between 27th June and 16th July 2019. Students are usually enrolled in AcSIR. The selected candidate has to pay a non-refundable fee at the time of admission (Rs 10000 for general category and Rs 5000 to get SC/ST/ OBC(non-creamy) applicants ).
Disclaimer: No TA/DA will be compensated at any stage of the selection procedure. The decision of the Admission Committee will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard. Canvassing of any form and/or bringing in almost any influence is going to be treated as a disqualification. In the event of qualified candidates with already activated JRF fellowships, the consent letter from the appropriate authority is to be submitted to CSIR-IGIB in the time of interview otherwise the candidature is liable to cancellation. Candidates must be aware that non-fulfilment of their eligibility standards will lead to cancellation of their candidature at any point of the admission procedure without refund of their application fee.
