A Member of Parliament (MP) from Andhra Pradesh, Maganti Murali Mohan revealed that a representation to set up an AYUSH University was recently forwarded to the Union Minister of Health for state with an aim to make it beneficial for the people of AP.
During an interaction with the reporters, MP Murali Mohan highlighted that if set up, the AYUSH University will offer courses in disciplines such as Yoga, Unani, Ayurveda, Siddha & Homeopathic medicine. The representation which was sent out also contained suggestions regarding where the university could be set up. The ideas included that it could be set up in the East or West Godavari region.
At present, all the AYUSH courses are being conducted under the purview of Dr. NTR Health University in Andhra Pradesh. Further, since these courses are drawing attention from a large number of people and they are taking interest in these AYUSH courses, an exclusive university can be set up in the state to meet the growing demand.
Simultaneously, a new building at the Dr. Allu Ramalingaiah Homeopathy Medical College will be set up for which a donation worth Rs. 2 crores has been received. Another Floriculture Centre will also be set up here for which VP Venkaiah Naidu will be laying down the foundation stone. Funding for these centres has also been sourced from the state government and other PSUs.
AYUSH courses, in the recent times, have not only gained popularity in a few states but all across the country. The admission to AYUSH courses was earlier done through merit or university/institute tests, but from the academic year 2018-19, admission to AYUSH courses were based on the NEET score obtained by candidates. It became vital to sit for the NEET exam in order to pursue AYUSH courses in the country.
