Retailers and pharmacists shut their businesses across India protesting Union Cabinet’s decision.

While the retailers are protesting approval to 100 percent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector, the pharmacists have called for a day-long strike against the Centre’s decision to allow operation of E-pharmacies.

Businesses at retail shops and malgodowns remain closed across the country to showcase their protests against the Centre’s decision to allow FDI in the Indian market.

Likewise, around 22,000 pharmacies from across the state have joined the strike called by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD). However, chemist shops present inside medical colleges and government hospitals will remain open.

The AIOCD alleges e-pharmacy poses threat to their business and could lead to the risk of drug abuse.
