This therapy will help children whose seizures have not responded to various seizure medications.
Ketogenic dietary therapies (KDTs) are established, effective non-pharmacologic treatments for intractable childhood epilepsy. Ketogenic diets are high in fat, has moderate protein and low carbohydrate, which helps to control seizures in children. Recent research has proved the efficacy of ketogenic diets to treat epilepsy in Pediatric cases.
Over 10 million people are afflicted with epilepsy in India. It is one of the most common neurological disorders, and affects people across ages. Despite the widespread affliction, the diagnosis of the condition is extremely limited due to lack of awareness amongst the people.
Pristine Organics has developed a special ketogenic diet – MetaNutrition KETO – which follows a 3:1 ketogenic formula – suitable for children with epilepsy. This special product will be used by the specialists at Aster CMI Hospital, Neukids Centre and administered under the guidance of renowned consultant Dr. C. P Ravi Kumar, Consultant – Pediatric Neurology & Epilepsy. The diet is planned, calculated and monitored by trained Clinical Dietitians – Ms. Edwina Raj and Ms. Arunadevi.
The typical ‘classic’ Ketogenic diet provides 3 to 4 grams of fat for every 1 gram of carbohydrate and protein. The planned diet involves special ingredients to be weighed and prepared according to the instruction and counseling provided by the Dietitian with minimal deviation expected from the patient. There are ready made formula preparations available in the market under prescription to minimize the effort of parents.
These readymade formula preparations are not easily available in the market that meets the exact requirement of the children.
